The #3 and top-seeded Denver Pioneers (27-8-1) are moving on. Thanks to a dominant, if a bit choppy 5-1 victory (that should have been 7-1) over the eighth-seeded Miami University RedHawks (7-27-2), the Pios officially advanced to the NCHC Tournament Semifinals at the Frozen Faceoff in St. Paul, Minnesota next weekend. With the sweep of the RedHawks at Magness Arena, the Pioneers remain the only program in the NCHC to advance to the semifinal round in each and every iteration of the tournament since the conference’s inception in 2013. Day 3 – Denver’s Quest for #25 Ends at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center
For many ski fans, it was an anxious wait today for men’s and women’s freestyle Nordic events to begin at the NCAA Championships. Heading into the final two events, Denver had held their own against the stacked field with eight Top-10 finishes, tied with Vermont and trailing CU (9) and Utah (10). DU basically needed to ‘bunch’ most of their six skiers in the front today, ahead of their rivals, especially Utah, to close the gap further. Unfortunately, it was not Denver’s day at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center. Continue reading Day 3 – Denver’s Quest for #25 Ends at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center
Depth, Special Teams Shine as Pioneers Top RedHawks to Grab 1-0 Series Lead
Playoff hockey is a completely different beast. Regular season hockey? It has its challenges, sure. But playoff hockey is where the proverbial men are separated from the boys. Playoff hockey is where legends are made. For the #3 and top-seeded Denver Pioneers (26-8-1) who hadn’t played a postseason game at Magness Arena since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic (2020 postseason was canceled and the entire 2021 NCHC Tournament was played in Grand Forks, North Dakota), their first postseason game of 2022, against the eighth-seeded Miami University RedHawks (7-26-2), was a test and despite an early penalty-killing hiccup, they passed with flying colors. The Pioneers used a strong start to the second period to pull away from the RedHawks and cruise to a 5-2 victory in Game One of the best-of-three NCHC Quarterfinal round. Day 2 – Third-Place Denver Still Chasing Utah Heading Into Final Day of NCAA Championships
Today was a bluebird day at Park City Mountain Resort for the NCAA Ski Championships. A chilly morning transformed into a sunny day, ten degrees warmer than yesterday, and 30 degrees with no wind. A perfect day for ski racing! Going into men’s and women’s slalom, this had to be ‘moving day’ for third-place Denver to make up ground on second-place Colorado’s (13.0 points) and first-place Utah (37.5 lead). Day 1 – DU Ski Team Digs out of Deep Hole at NCAA Championships
It was a wild day of racing in Utah today and Denver responded with a solid day to open the 2022 NCAA Championships.
It was 18 degrees and partly sunny at Park City mountain resorts today with 10 to 15 mph winds. Ideal weather, if a bit breezy, for day one. The teams had four events scheduled on the day with men’s and women’s classical as well as giant slalom (GS) events for both the men and women. The home team, Utah, used a dominant women’s 5K classical result to take the overall lead on the day. Continue reading Day 1 – DU Ski Team Digs out of Deep Hole at NCAA Championships
St. Thomas Athletic Facilities Expansion Plans Denied
Landlocked St. Thomas University was looking to expand its footprint in St. Paul, Minnesota as they approached the private Town and Country Club with an unsolicited offer. St. Thomas would pay the club $61.4 million for the purchase of their 96-acre golf course for hockey, baseball, and softball facilities as well as the future growth of the urban University. The Town & Country Club Board of Directors reviewed the offer and unanimously rejected the St. Thomas bid. Continue reading St. Thomas Athletic Facilities Expansion Plans Denied

I can’t believe it’s here already – the NCAA Skiing Championships in Park City Mountain Resort in Park City and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah. The competition begins tomorrow – Giant Slalom was moved from today to tomorrow due to slope conditions – through March 12th and I expect our Denver Pioneers to be in the thick of it – even though they will be in rival Utah’s territory! Clash of Undefeated Teams as Denver Faces #1 Boston College at Peter Barton
To put a twist on an old Rick Flair quote, “To be the best, you have to beat the best.” #11 Denver women’s lacrosse (6-0) will have that opportunity tomorrow, Wednesday, at Peter Barton Stadium at 4:00 pm in what is certain to be a chilly and possibly snowy reception for the #1 Boston College Golden Eagles (6-0). Head Coach Liza Kelly and her teams have been knocking on the door as a true national contender but Wednesday’s match is the ultimate test – can they be the best?
***GAME MOVED TO 1:00 PM DUE TO WEATHER***

Injuries Plague DU Gymnastics Team
Authored by LetsGoDU Contributor Jill Cattrysse-Larson
And then there were none. With the loss of graduate student Emily Glynn at Penn State on Saturday, all three fifth-year gymnasts on the DU roster are out. Glynn suffered a lower leg injury, possibly an Achilles injury, on floor exercise (DU rarely provides public details of student-athlete injuries), as she was carried off after failing to complete her first tumbling pass. Glynn was injured just like her teammates, Lynnzee Brown and Mia Sundstrom. Continue reading Injuries Plague DU Gymnastics Team
