Denver Hockey ascended to the top of college hockey polls on April 13th, 2024 after winning the program’s NCAA record 10th title. Now, following a 4-1 win over Yale in its home opener, DU men’s soccer (4-0-3) has ascended to the top of college soccer. The Top Drawer Soccer Poll placed DU in the top spot while the United Soccer Coaches Poll had the Pioneers at #2, trailing West Virginia out of the Sun Belt.
For the THIRD time in the last year, this flag will fly to honor a @DU_Pioneers team. This time for @DU_MSoccer ranking. Keep rolling. #GOPIOS pic.twitter.com/rNiiiXLu4z

Polls, especially media ones, are really nothing more than incredibly effective marketing tools for every sport that has them. However, being among the top teams in a sport with 205 Division I men’s sides is an outstanding achievement.
Elsewhere around Ritchie Center, DU women’s volleyball (5-3) fell to the University of Northern Colorado 3-1 at Hamilton Gym. No shame in losing to a UNC team that defeated Michigan State, Colorado, and Colorado State earlier this season. After winning the first set, Denver got swept by the Bears. The Pioneers missed key services and faulty second-ball sets doomed the Pioneers in a tight match. Denver heads on the road next weekend for matches against TCU and UT Arlington at the Horned Frog Invitational.
Denver women’s soccer (6-3) is on a nice roll, winning six of their last seven. During the streak, their only loss came in Boulder at Colorado, 1-0. Last week, the Pioneers traveled to Ft. Collins and Vanessa Murray scored the winning goal at 48:07 with a feed from Ella Frost for the 1-0 victory over CSU. Women’s soccer hits the road for an 8:00 pm MT tilt this Thursday with Gonzaga in Spokane.
The Denver Pioneers women’s triathlon team ranks No. 4 among Division-I squads in the 2024 Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association preseason poll. Arizona State, Arizona, and Queens University of Charlotte were selected ahead of Denver. DU is hosting its community Aquathon this upcoming Saturday. You can find more information about that here. Their next event is in two weeks at Fort Worth, Texas and the Battle of the Fort Triathlon.
Great news! Awesome article, 5BWest
