#1 Denver Tops #20 Wisconsin in Season’s First Comeback Victory

Through their first four games, the top-ranked Denver Pioneers ( 5-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) had not trailed. That changed barely four minutes into game five, though, as the #20 Wisconsin Badgers (1-4-0, 1-1-0 Big Ten) struck first at Magness Arena in the first matchup between the two old WCHA rivals in Denver since 2016. But after a back-and-forth first period played to a 2-2 tie, the Pioneers’ Cale Ashcroft sealed the victory with his second-career goal before Carter King iced the 4-2 victory with an empty-netter. Mike Hastings’ Badgers were Denver’s stiffest test through the season’s first four weeks and despite an inconsistent effort through the first two periods, the Pioneers passed and remained unbeaten. #1 Pioneers Raise 10th Banner to Magness Rafters & Finish Off Homecoming Sweep

It was a special night at Magness Arena. One that will go down as one of the greatest in the rink’s storied 25-year history. And the reason for it had nothing to do with the hockey game being played on this night. The #1 Denver Pioneers (4-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) were scheduled to close out Homecoming Weekend against the #19 Northeastern Huskies (1-2-0, 0-0-0 HE), and they did so with a 5-2 victory, but it was secondary to the night’s main event – Denver’s ceremony to honor 2024’s national title team and raise the program’s NCAA-record 10th national championship banner. Denver Races by Northeastern in Home Opener

The #1 ranked and defending national champions, the University of Denver hockey team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC), took to home ice for the first time this season. A sold-out homecoming crowd greeted the Pioneers and #19 Northeastern Huskies along with some nice improvements to Magness arena, most notably lighting and improved seating. Men’s Soccer Drops Two Games, Women’s Teams Sweep at Home

It was not a complete surprise when DU men’s soccer (7-2-4, 2-1) traveled to #3 Pitt and fell 1-0 to the Panthers, spoiling DU’s undefeated record. Saturday’s loss at UMKC, however, was inexplicable.
