Denver Races by Northeastern in Home Opener

The #1 ranked and defending national champions, the University of Denver hockey team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC), took to home ice for the first time this season. A sold-out homecoming crowd greeted the Pioneers and #19 Northeastern Huskies along with some nice improvements to Magness arena, most notably lighting and improved seating.

Denver used a second period 3-goal blitz en route to a 5-2 Husky pasting. Denver doubled up the visitors on shots and controlled the pace of play. Five different players found the back of the net for DU as the Pioneers dominated, showing superior speed and stick handling.

We will have a more comprehensive series recap after the conclusion of game two tomorrow night when DU will raise its 10th National Championship banner on Saturday at 6:00 pm MT. Be sure to arrive very early to enjoy the ceremony.
