It was an uninspired first period as both teams were as cold as the winter storm engulfing Denver. The second period Denver heated up and delivered three unanswered goals to coast to a 4-1 win on Alumni weekend. The DU team sported their 75th anniversary ‘ketchup and mustard’ throwback uniforms for the first time this season. Continue reading Second Period Outburst Fuels DU Win Over Lindenwood, 4-1

Denver Swamps Western Colorado, 97-80
Denver is who we thought they were – guard-driven, disruptive defensively and a collective offense finding itself. It wasn’t always pretty Friday afternoon but Denver basketball gave fans a glimps of what might be in an 97-80 win over Western Colorado at Hamilton Gym. The WCC Sold Its Soul & Paid the Price
We know, the West Coast Conference (WCC) seems to be a frequent topic on this site but they just can’t help themselves and they keep finding their way into headlines. This past week was no different. After Grand Canyon University (GCU) joined the WCC conference nearly six months ago, the Lopes announced their departure to the Mountain West Conference (MWC) Friday. Ouch! Continue reading The WCC Sold Its Soul & Paid the Price
Stanford Drops Denver in Men’s Basketball Opener, 85-62
Most DU fans did not expect the Pioneers (0-1, 0-0 Summit League) to beat Stanford on the road to open the 2024-25 campaign. Denver’s best chance to compete in this game (and this season, for that matter) depended on limiting turnovers, relying on veterans, and playing solid defense. Denver had trouble in all three categories Monday afternoon against Stanford. Denver had 20 turnovers, only generated 28 points from their 5-player returning core, and surrendered 80+ points. Emerging freshman guard, Sebastian Akins, led Denver in scoring (15) but his performance cast a shadow on Denver’s more experienced players. Men’s Soccer Wins Regular Season Title, Women’s Soccer Closing Strong, Basketball Begins
Head Coach Jamie Franks led Denver Men’s Soccer (11-2-1, 6-1-0) to yet another Summit League Conference regular season title, their 10th in the Summit League. The Pioneers clinched the top spot in Tulsa Saturday when they defeated Oral Roberts 1-0. Redshirt junior Ian Smith scored the game-winning goal 17 minutes into the second half with a helper from Ronan Wynne. Denver still has one regular season match remaining on Saturday against Omaha. The Summit League Tournament will be held at Pioneer Field a week later with the Pioneers as the top seed. #1 Pioneers Take Care of Business and Sweep Yale for Program’s 1,600th Win
A fourth consecutive matchup shutout was not in the offing in game two of the weekend series between the #1 Denver Pioneers (8-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) and Yale Bulldogs (0-2-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) but DU’s methodical, 5-1 dismantling of the hosts at Ingalls Ice Rink in New Haven, Conn. certainly had the same feeling as the three prior DU shutouts dating back to last November. If it wasn’t for one hail mary of a shot that just squeaked through Freddie Halyk’s pads in the first period, we would be sitting here talking about a fourth straight Yale goose egg against Denver. Instead, we’re talking about a strong, efficient Pioneers side that quietly took what Yale gave them, including seven power plays, and came away with a four-goal victory. #1 Pioneers Blitz Bulldogs for Denver’s Third Straight Shutout of Yale
Over their last three matchups, dating back to last year’s late November series at Magness Arena, the Denver Pioneers have outscored the Yale Bulldogs a whopping 20-0. Last year, after goaltender Matt Davis was sidelined with an early-season injury, Denver thumped Yale 5-0 and 9-0 and then, in game one at Ingalls Ice Rink in New Haven, Conn., the #1 Pioneers (7-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) picked up right where they left off and shut out the Bulldogs (0-1-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) to the tune of 6-0. Jay Stickney Joins Media Lecture Series at Yale
