There is a reason we are named LetsGoDU – we are optimistic about the future of Denver Athletics and the University of Denver. Here are some of our takes on 2025:
- Sam Bassett wins the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy as the best college soccer player in America.
- DU men’s hoops will return in the New Year with a depleted front line (and the return of 7’0″ Abdulai Fanta Kabba), yet plays .500+ hoops in conference play.
- DU Gymnastics win the Big 12 tournament in the newly reconfigured conference.
- Despite enrollment headwinds, DU will improve 5+ places on the US News College Rankings.
- The UNLV exhibition hockey shootout loss will either drain DU hockey or energize them for the rest of the 2024-25 season. It starts this weekend against the Maine Black Bears.
- DU has recruited their best Nordic skiers in years, leaving the ski team deep in the hunt for the program’s 25th overall NCAA team title in New Hampshire March 5-8th.
- Triathlete Maira Carreau will retake the triathlon individual championship, her second individual title in three years.
- And perhaps our most overly optimistic take – Denver Athletics will announce the move to a new athletic conference, effective 2026.
Maybe add back baseball and make a run at WCC….
Go DU skiers and win the 25th!
Baseball is unlikely to ever come back. Spring weather in Colorado is way too unsettled, which would likely force DU into spending the first 15 games of the season playing away games in the south. Colorado is not the best recruiting area, either.
