Denver Cruises Past Florida 16-8, Earns Mothers Day NCAA Tournament Clash in Boulder Against the Buffs

Denver women’s lacrosse (16-3) stunned favored Florida, defeating the Gators for the first time in program history, to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Boulder. Denver will face the Colorado Buffs Sunday.

Denver led 6-5 at halftime but pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Gators 6-1 on route to the victory. DU’s goalie, Lexi Gwaku had an excellent game, stopping 10 of 18 shots while Florida’s three goalies combined for 6 saves on 22 shots. Caroline Keil’s 5 goals and Olivia Ripple’s 4 goals and 2 assists paced the Pioneer win.

The Pioneers take on No. 8 Colorado on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Boulder, Colorado. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The game will be held at Kettredge Field and you can buy tickets HERE. There is limited seating for fans (350) so overflow are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for the surrounding lawn.

  1. If Denver can play like they did against Florida, they could upset CU. The Buffs struggled with Jacksonville yesterday, which suggests that they might be ripe to get upset by the Pioneers. Certainly, Denver will gave motivation after CU punked DU at Barton earlier this season. To beat Colorado in Boulder would be delicious for the Pios…
