Denver men’s soccer team came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against the University of Pacific Tigers at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium on Saturday, October 24. The only other time the two teams met was at DU in 2019 with Denver winning 2-1.
DU started the game fast with Senior Midfielder Luke Schultz having a shot blocked at the 12′ mark. The Pioneers were shooting at the north goal in the first half and had several good opportunities to score. Pacific drew the first blood at the 28′ mark and then followed up with second goal at 44′ to make it 2-0 at halftime. Overall, the Tigers goalie, Alejandro Caracheo Luna, made several impressive saves with Pacific having nine saves to only one for DU throughout the game.
The Crimson and Gold came out strong in the second half with 12 shots vs. only three for Pacific. Freshman Defender Ryan McKay scored his first DU career goal at the 47′ with an assist by 5th year Forward Bryce Willoughby. Just over 10 minutes later Schultz punched a goal in to make it 2-2. Shultz had another strong shot at the 68′ mark but could not convert.
Pacific (3-9-4) had fallen to San Francisco on October 21, while Denver (4-7-3) had come off a 3-2 win at St. Mary’s, also on October 21. DU is now 3-1-2 in West Coast Conference play.
Next up, the Pioneers head to California on Halloween to play Santa Clara for a 8 pm MT match. Denver’s final home match will be Friday, November 6 against Seattle.
