DU Men’s Soccer Blanks Seattle 2-0 to End Regular Season

The Denver men’s soccer team ended its regular season with a 2-0 victory over the Seattle University Redhawks at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium last night.  DU  is now 6-1-2 all time against Seattle and 6-0-0 at home.

The Pioneers came right out of the gate with Sophomore Midfielder Erik Collins making the first shot at 33 seconds into the game.  The Pioneers initially had good possession time to start the match and ultimately made it 1-0 when Senior Forward Tyler Schoomer got an assist from Sophomore Midfielder Hudson Tate at 26′.  The Pioneers had 11 shots to Seattle’s five to end the first half.

“We only lost one game in six weeks,” said Denver head coach Jamie Franks. “Every game we look a little bit more like Denver soccer.” The Pioneers continue to look better even though injuries have been a big issue this season. Top players Kyle McGowan and Keegan Kelly were both injured in the Creighton game and are out for the season.

It was Senior Night and senior goalkeeper Dean Kelliher and Senior Defender Collin Keller made their first career starts for DU. Kelliher started 19 games with Columbia before transferring to Denver this past offseason. The Pioneers made it 2-0 early in the second half with Freshman Forward Chase Stewart scoring at 51′. Stewart played a great game with many scoring opportunities. He just missed another goal by going over the bar at 67′. The game ended with the Pioneers having 20 shots to Seattle’s 14 for the contest.

Denver (5-7-4)  now heads to Portland for the 2026  West Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament. They play San Diego in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 11 at 3 pm MT. DU played to a 0-0 draw at San Diego on September 26.
