Groundhog day came early as Denver (4-12, 0-2) faced the same problems that have plagued them all season long in a 82-71 loss to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Denver made 22-65 shots from the field for 33.8%. North Dakota drained 48% of their shots – that was the game. Continue reading Denver Shooting Woes Lead to 82-71 North Dakota Loss→
The Pioneers (4-11) did just about everything they needed to do to win against conference favorite North Dakota State University, except make shots. Sophomore Jase Townsend’s 17 points sent Denver into halftime with a 33-33 tie. But Townsend and the Pioneers went cold in the second half on 6/33 shooting to fall to NDSU, 66-55. So, we went back, re-read our LetsGoDUseason preview and can now evaluate the team’s progress heading into Summit League play which starts December 28th against conference favorite North Dakota State University at Magness Arena. Continue reading Denver Men’s Hoops Mid-Season Review→

The defensive effort was solid, but a brutal shooting display by the Pioneers Saturday afternoon left Denver with five consecutive losses to end the non-conference portion of their schedule. Shooting just 38% from the field and missing 18 free throws, DU still took the Cowboys to OT but DU could not finish the job. The Cowboys reeled off a 9-point run to start OT and the game was, essentially, over. Continue reading Ice Cold Shooting Sinks Denver in Wyoming OT loss, 72-66→

Every season we see it – the big upset. #1 Duke upset by Stephen F. Austin, Kentucky falls to Evansville, and the University of Kansas taken into overtime by Dayton. But the reality is that most of the games are essentially predetermined before the tip-off. This is especially true if you are a lower mid-major program, like DU, taking on a Power-5 program or playing a ‘near Power 5’ program from the Big East, Atlantic 10, or American Conference.
