DU gymnastics hosted their last home meet of the season in Magness on Monday, March 9 and posted a win over Air Force 197.075 to 195.925. While Air Force is having a record breaking season, DU’s performance level was too high for them to keep up. The team score for Denver is a new season high and hopefully a sign that the team is peaking at the right time in preparation for Big 12 conference finals and regional competition. Denver Gymnastics Suffers First Loss of the Season to BYU
#16 Denver gymnastics lost on the road to #23 BYU on Friday evening 195.925 to 196.575. They will fall to second in the Big 12 standings. Although Denver has remained consistent on bars and floor over the last four meets, they had season lows on both beam and vault. Gymnastics Remains Undefeated Atop Big 12
Denver hosted Arizona at their annual pink meet on Valentine’s Day and gifted fans with their sixth consecutive win and second win over Arizona this season. With a team average of 196.417, Denver increases one spot in the national rankings to 17. Continue reading Gymnastics Remains Undefeated Atop Big 12
Big 12 Gymnastics Conference Suddenly Down to Six Teams
Iowa State’s meet at Magness on February 1st turned out to be their last of the season. Five days after the Cyclone’s loss to DU, and just one day before their next scheduled competition, ISU head coach Ashley Miles Greig announced, “At this time, we do not have enough student-athletes available to safely field a team against West Virginia, and regrettably must cancel this competition.” Then even more shockingly, on February 8th, Iowa State canceled the entire remainder of their 2026 season. Gymnastics Finishes Week 4 With Another Win
The Pioneers Gymnastics got their 5th win of the season in a dual meet against Iowa State on February 1st. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, they are beating themselves, Denver merely had to show up. Continue reading Gymnastics Finishes Week 4 With Another Win
Gymnastics is Back!
To answer my own question from last spring, no, Denver gymnastics will not fade into obscurity! They started off the 2026 season with two weeks of top finishes. Senior Cecilia Cooley beat the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist on floor (no…not that one, the Romanian)! Continue reading Gymnastics is Back!
Fall Sports Begin Prior to the September 9th Academic Start
DU’s Autumn academic quarter has not begun, and students aren’t even on campus yet. However, fall sports are well underway at University and Buchtel. Basketball just finished summer practices, and men’s (1-1) and women’s (1-0-3) soccer are in full swing. Volleyball begins play later this week. All this as questions swirl around the changes, challenges, and opportunities confronting Denver and collegiate athletics at large. Will Denver Gymnastics Fade Into Obscurity?
Coming off a so-so season, where the team pulled off a heroic 13th place finish, Denver gymnastics faces many unknowns for 2026. By the numbers, Denver should have averaged 197.2 this year. The only athlete who didn’t return for a fifth season was Jessica Hutchinson. Denver should have been consistently strong, given their record smashing season in 2024. Instead, they could only muster a 196.7 NQS, with some huge misses along the way. Yet they performed well in regional semi-finals to finish above their #18 seed. The season was baffling and frustrating for fans. But it’s going to get worse in 2026. Continue reading Will Denver Gymnastics Fade Into Obscurity?
Three Pioneers Gymnasts Advance to NCAA Finals
Denver gymnastics upset #13 Stanford to advance to Regional Finals, but the team’s run ended there. They placed third out of four teams, with another upset of a seeded team, #10 Minnesota. But only the top two teams advance to National Semifinals from each of the four Regional Finals. The silver lining for Pio fans is that three athletes will advance as individuals to the NCAA Finals: Sophomore Madison Ulrich earned an individual All Around spot, along two of our stellar fifth-year athletes: Rylie Mundell on Bars, and Rosie Casali on Vault. Denver brought back their new all black sparkly leotards, but the leotards weren’t the only things that sparkled! The Pioneers hit a new season high score in Utah to take second in the regional semifinal and will advance to the regional final on Saturday.
