Denver gymnastics’ second meet of 2025 was an action packed quad meet at Magness on January 12. DU took first place over Mizzou, Georgia, and Long Island U and improved their team score by over eight tenths and didn’t have to count any falls.
Welcome back gym fans!! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! DU Gymnastics season! Denver gymnastics started the year with a win over Michigan (195.7 to 194.975). March 3rd was senior night in Magness for DU gymnastics. The team honored its five seniors: Rosie Casali, Jessica Hutchinson, Bella Mabanta, Rylie Mundell, and Abbie Thompson. These five women have all been at DU for four years and have all been huge contributors to the team since day one. It’s been incredible to watch them soar into the DU record books, and they’ve got the potential to go deep into the 2024 post season.
Denver gymnastics traveled to BYU on Friday for the second away meet in a row, only four days between meets. Senior star Jessica Hutchinson did not compete. Coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart said she was letting Jessica rest to provide opportunities for other team members step up in the lineup. There were also a few other starters who did not compete this week in all of their normal events.
The Pioneers Gymnastics team posted another win over Iowa State and West Virginia in week 7 on 2/18/24. In what West Virginia Athletics called their Beauty and the Beast meet, fans were treated to women’s gymnastics and men’s wrestling simultaneously in the WVU Coliseum. It was a cute concept and brought both wrestling and gym fans out for the same event. WVU executed the event well, and the gymnastics portion was streamed on ESPN+. On 2/4/24, Denver gymnastics faced off against Towson at Magness Arena for a win 198.0 to 195.6.
Denver is joined by just five other teams in the NCAA who have hit 198 points this season! A score of 198 is an average score of 9.9 for every counted score on every event. What’s most surprising, is that of the six teams who have hit 198, only LSU is in the SEC. (The SEC judges are known to throw out 10.0s like candy at a parade.) This is only the second time in program history that DU has hit the astronomical 198 mark, the first being last March, also at home, also in a dual meet versus Towson. Week 4 is in the books for DU gymnastics. Denver has seen some promising improvements and some setbacks.
