Gymnastics Remains at #10 After Beating Cyclones
Denver gymnastics put up a 197.275 against the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday, February 24. The Cyclones are at #39, so again, the Pioneers were supposed to win this one by a lot. It’s just our athletes versus the judges. The team remained ranked #10 in the nation and improved their National Qualifying Score (NQS) from 197.195 to 197.305. DU Gymnastics team looks great, but can’t catch #1 Oklahoma Sooners
The DU gymnastics team improved its season high team score by over two tenths of a point at their fourth meet of the season on Sunday afternoon in Magnus arena. (Can we call it that in honor of Chrona’s shutout Friday night?!) The gymnastics team score was 197.425. For comparison, the highest team score last year for DU was 197.6. Not there yet, but this DU gymnastics team is improving week over week. We even saw the return of graduate student, Lynnzee Brown, to the vault lineup, which has her back on three of four events after last year’s season ending achilles tendon injury. DU hit season high team scores on both bars (49.4) and floor (49.4). But, even the Pioneers very best meet wouldn’t touch the Oklahoma Sooner’s whopping 198.425 team score. Oklahoma is just that good, which is why they are ranked #1.

BREAKING LOGO NEWS: University Launches New ‘Denver Arch’
When the University of Denver formally released new logo brand guidelines to the public this past September, the announcement was met with mixed reviews. Of greater concern to many was the future of the ‘Denver Arch’, absent from the brand release. In Athletics, the Denver arch was a critical part of Denver’s athletic identity, especially in hockey. Would DU athletes be left with the interlocking logo(s) on the front of their uniforms as a primary identifier? Continue reading BREAKING LOGO NEWS: University Launches New ‘Denver Arch’

Fall Sports Begin to Wind Down, DU Triathlon Set for NCAA Title Quest
Denver volleyball (16-10, 10-5) split their home matches this week. Denver sped by Oral Roberts 3-0 on Thursday but fell to UMKC 3-1 Saturday on Senior Day. Lauren Poulter had 34 assists and DU had a balanced attack to sweep the ORU Golden Eagles. On Saturday, Summit League volleyball teams honored DU’s Coach Tom Hogan with pre-match t-shirts recognizing his battle against testicular cancer. No doubt, the emotions associated with Senior Day and Tom Hogan were at the top of mind of fans and players in Hamilton Gym. UMKC played a solid match and a number of their fans traveled to Denver for additional support in the road win for the Roos. Pioneers Pile Up Victories Aside a Stunning Defeat
The sudden end of the #1 seed DU women’s soccer (11-4-4, 8-0-1) season came Sunday afternoon during the Summit League Tournament semifinals at Pioneer Field. The underdog #4 Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (10-9-2, 4-5-0) bunkered in during the game, packing the back line, failing to go on the offensive, and hoping for overtime and a shootout. After a scoreless regulation draw and extra time, the Golden Eagles got their wish and took down DU 3-2 during PK’s. Denver outshot ORU 14-3 and shots-on-goal 5-3 but the Pioneers could not find the back of the net. The final result marked a shocking end to DU’s post-season hopes after an undefeated conference regular season. #2 seed, South Dakota State fell to Omaha as the top two seeds were booted from the Summit League Tournament.
