The Golden Eagles opened the half with a pair of goals from Carson Brandt to double up DU, 10-5. MU held a four goal edge heading into the final period. Men’s Lacrosse Flounders in Senior Day loss 10-6; Women’s Lacrosse on a Heater with 21-3 Win
It was a first half to forget on Senior Day at Peter Barton Stadium. The Providence Friars raced out to a 9-2 halftime lead following a comedy of errors by DU (7-6, 3-4). Half of DU’s goals, one, were scored by the Friars to finally get DU on the board in the half. DU had 10 first-half turnovers and could only muster 6 shots on-goal. DU was pushed to the perimeter on offense and the Friars initiated their offense from behind the cage and fed cutters for easy goals. Pioneers Fall to Western Michigan in First Double-Overtime Frozen Four Game Since 1996
ST. LOUIS – This game had no right to go to overtime, let alone two. For 45-plus minutes, the Denver Pioneers were completely outclassed and outworked by fellow NCHC power Western Michigan Broncos. But that’s the funny thing about Denver Hockey and the playoffs. Sometimes, the balance of play, shots on goal, and yes, the score don’t matter. After killing off a Hagen Burrows holding penalty more than four minutes into the third period, the Pioneers flipped the script, found a window, and tied the game. Outshot 32-8 through two periods, the Pioneers never quit and forced their way back into the game and forced two overtimes when they were left for dead early in the third…unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Their quest to repeat and earn the program’s third title in four years abruptly ended on the stick of Owen Michaels. That’s hockey. Three Pioneers Gymnasts Advance to NCAA Finals
Denver gymnastics upset #13 Stanford to advance to Regional Finals, but the team’s run ended there. They placed third out of four teams, with another upset of a seeded team, #10 Minnesota. But only the top two teams advance to National Semifinals from each of the four Regional Finals. The silver lining for Pio fans is that three athletes will advance as individuals to the NCAA Finals: Sophomore Madison Ulrich earned an individual All Around spot, along two of our stellar fifth-year athletes: Rylie Mundell on Bars, and Rosie Casali on Vault.
