Another Shinyashiki Hat Trick Vaults #5 Pioneers over #22 San Francisco Dons, 3-0
Senior Striker Andre Shinyashiki continued his torrid scoring pace, producing all three DU goals in the fifth-ranked Pioneer men’s 3-0 sun-baked soccer shut-out demolition of the #22nd-ranked University of San Francisco Dons at DU Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The hat trick was his third such three-goal performance in this young season, as the Brazilian continues to lead the nation in goal scoring, with 13 goals in just seven games, which is already the second-most season goals in DU’s Division I history. He also had scored twice in Friday’s 3-1 win over Harvard, and set-up the game-winner with an assist, and today notched his third-straight multi-goal game to keep the Pioneers undefeated at 6-0-1 on the season. All three of Shinyashiki’s goals today came in the second half to blow open a 0-0 halftime tie in 92 degree heat, after the first half had seen Shinyashiki create a number of near misses. Shinyashiki’s Brace Powers Denver over Harvard, 3-1
It was almost a perfect night at University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Harvard was in town to take on the undefeated and fifth-ranked Denver Pioneers, with a game-time temperature at 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. A big, buzzing school-is-back-in-session crowd nearly filled the stadium gave the night some extra verve, with the smell of $1 hot dogs everywhere.
All that was needed was a goal-scoring hero for the home team, and DU’s Brazillian senior striker Andre Shinyashiki, the leading goal scorer in NCAA Division I soccer, did his job with his pair of elegant goals to elevate the University of Denver to a 3-1 win over Harvard in a game that was not as close as the score would indicate. DU Adds Ben Scrivens as Second Former NHL Player to Pioneer Hockey Team Staff
Denver Pioneer head hockey coach David Carle continues to add experienced NHL insights to his program staff, having named named former Cornell all-American and eight-year NHLer/Team Canada goaltender Ben Scrivens to the newly-created position of Team Manager on Sept. 6, 2018.
The new position will be filled while Scriven’s earns his masters degree at DU. Carle had previously added longtime NHL player Steve Reinprecht as a volunteer assistant earlier in the summer, making room for two former NHL players to enter the team’s brain trust.

Campus Lounge 3.0 – Returning to its roots
It only took 4 months and, by several accounts, several million dollars. The ‘new’ Campus Lounge collapsed with their new age food concept and spartan entertainment. Dan Landes, the owner, offered a stark assessment. “Basically, it’s a failure…My intention with Campus Lounge was to save an iconic sign, but not the legacy of a great man (former owner Jim Wiste). Pioneer Men’s Soccer Edges Third-Ranked Washington Huskies, 3-2 on Shinyashiki’s Dramatic Double-OT Golden Goal

In sports, the promise of an entire college season can be launched with a single early season victory over a ranked opponent.
And while we don’t yet know how the rest of the season will go for the University of Denver Men’s Soccer Team, if great things do happen to the Pioneers the year, they will likely look back on August 30, 2018 at Pioneer Soccer Stadium as the night they found out that they deserved to be a Top 10 soccer team. The Pioneers stormed back from a second-half deficit to shock the #3 ranked University of Washington Huskies, 3-2 in double overtime on a dramatic, walk-off golden goal from Brazilian senior striker Andre Shinyashiki. If ‘Augie’ joins the Summit, Denver should exit
The Summit League packed up their office in the Chicago suburbs and moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota this year. The conference’s annual men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are held in Sioux Falls. And now, it appears that Augustana University, located in Sioux Falls, is looking at the possibility of moving to DI and joining the Summit League according to KELO radio in Sioux Falls and WDAZ TV in Fargo. According to reports, Augustana’s new athletic director, Josh Morton, is exploring the feasibility of a move to a higher athletics division and conference.
