Rivalries make sports great. They’re the games that every fan circles on the calendar and makes sure they have a ticket to. The only thing better than a rivalry in sports is a college rivalry. When most people think of a rivalry they usually think of the Michigan-Ohio State, CU-CSU (at least around here), USC-UCLA, Duke-North Carolina and so on. Maybe it’s due to the pride and tradition that each school has built, but it always seems like college sports take rivalries to a whole new level. Under-the-Radar Denver volleyball faces Stanford in NCAA Tournament action

This weekend is big, right? Sure Colorado College is down but they want that Gold Pan and regional respect. Expect an all-out effort from the Tigers. On the pitch, DU’s men’s soccer team can go where no other DU soccer team has ever gone if they beat Clemson in the NCAA Quarterfinals and advancing to the final four in Houston.

Colorado College Comes to Grips with Campus Fracking

The abstract discussion of fracking has taken on real meaning at Colorado College. Although it may not be immediately intuitive, land ownership and rights to a particular tract of land can be owned separately from the minerals underneath.  This recently came as a surprise to Colorado College when they learned that they are not the owner of the minerals underneath the Colorado Springs campus.  Continue reading Colorado College Comes to Grips with Campus Fracking

Denver overcomes 16-point deficit to beat Sacramento State

Two evenly matched teams traded punches the entire second half but Denver pulled away in the closing minutes from the Sacramento State Hornets, 72-61.

Coming off an OT loss on Saturday night, it was a quick turnaround of less than 24 hours for the Pioneers. In the first half, the difference was cold shooting by Denver – shooting 32.3%  while the Hornets shot 40.0% -with some easy interior buckets. The Pioneers trailed by as many as 16 points but chipped away at Sacramento State. The Pioneers trailed at half 25-31. WATCH: Jamie Franks talks about DU’s first Quarterfinal berth in 46 years

The University of Denver Men’s soccer team won again last night to keep their national title hopes alive. They beat Washington 2-1 to clinch another game next weekend against the winner of the Clemson vs. Albany Round of 16 match in South Carolina. This victory and advancement in the NCAA tournament are not only huge for this year’s squad but for the program as a whole. WATCH: Jim Montgomery talks Wisconsin victory, offensive improvement

Last night, the University of Denver Pioneers hockey team topped the Wisconsin Badgers in a wild 6-5 game. For the first time all year, the Pios scored more than 4 goals in a game, but also, this was the first time all year that they gave up more than 3 goals defensively. DU Falls in OT to Eastern Washington

Coming off a 27-point collapse against Utah Valley on Wednesday night, a resilient Pioneer (1-3) squad went on the road to Cheney, Washington Saturday night and battled the Eastern Washington Eagles to the wire. Pioneer fans were anxious to see how the Pioneers would react following their stunning loss.

Pioneers down Badgers in wild 6-5 affair

For a game that saw 11 goals, 13 penalties, a game misconduct, three different goalie changes, and two goals on the same power play, you’d think that it would have been a back-and-forth game. Such was not the case this evening at Magness Arena when the #2 University of Denver Pioneers hosted the University of Wisconsin Badgers. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
