Denver Hockey captain Will Butcher joins BSN Avalanche Podcast

Our good friends over at BSN Avalanche host a twice-per-week podcast about all things Colorado Avalanche. Admittedly, there hasn’t been a lot of good stuff to talk about so far this year. Until now. Podcast hosts AJ Haefele, JJ Jerez, and Cheryl Bradley had DU captain and Avalanche draftee, Will Butcher on the show yesterday and talked to him about his season and his future.

Of course, as should be expected, the interview is focused on Butcher’s status as it relates to the Avs. This is a really unique and great segment and well worth a listen. Give it a click, give it a listen, and enjoy hearing what Butcher has to say.

To listen to the interview (it starts just after the 45-minute mark for those who aren’t also Avs fans), click here.

  1. Butcher played his cards well by staying four years at DU. He’s developed into one of top six defensemen in DU history, and will be an all-American this year for the second time, and likely a Hobey Baker Finalist. He can wait until August 15 and field offers from any NHL team, and if I were him, I’d probably do just that, as the Avalanche is a dumpster fire right now.

By the way, the other two-time all-American D-men at DU were Matt Carle, Joey LaLeggia, Keith Magnuson, Wayne Smith and Grant Munro. Magnuson and Carle both had long NHL careers, while Smith had a cup of coffee with the Blackhawks. Munro and LaLeggia had minor league careers, although LaLeggia may someday get an NHL opportunity. He’s been recently changed to a forward in the minor leagues.
