Colorado College Donates Banners for a Good Cause

Colorado College Athletics donated 3 of their 27 participation banners from the rafters of the Broadmoor World Arena for the manufacture of eight hundred COVID-19 masks for the local Colorado Springs community.

CC’s two biggest departments, Ceramics and Medieval Textiles & Weaving teamed up for the effort.

Lesley Irvine, CC’s new athletic director, “With such a rich tradition, it is always tough to say goodbye to a big chunk of our history but it is an important cause.”

Mike Haviland (63-136-20 in six seasons), head hockey coach, said it was a tough decision selecting which banners should go to the cause. “The ‘We Tried Hard’ and ‘Better luck next time’ banners were inspirational to our boys. The one I will really miss is, ‘I think I can, I think I can.’ I read The Little Engine that Could to all our incoming freshmen.”

The good news for Tiger fans? Fresh, new participation banners will be made when the Robson Arena when opens for the 2021-2022 season.
