Denver Athletics has launched a year-long campaign to recoup some of the losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. DU still has the cost of administrative staff, support staff, student housing, and now, with the resumption of sports, the cost of travel, equipment, and associated support costs. According to the 5280 Together COVID Relief Fund announcement, “We face unprecedented losses in revenues and added expenses as we work to bring our student-athletes back to competition, keep them safe and provide a first-class experience at DU.” And the goal? One million dollars during the 2020-2021 season.
The 5280 Together COVID Relief Fund will help Denver Athletics tackle the financial impact of this pandemic head on.

DU Athletics is hoping that The 5280 Together COVID Relief Fund contributions will be in addition to the usual ongoing contributions made by donors to individual sports.
The athletics program is offering the options of full refunds for season ticket deposits, rolling tickets over to next season, or hoping fans donate a portion of ticket purchase deposits to the 5280 Together COVID Relief Fund. Other options include making donations thru the University of Denver Advancement (firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-871-2311) or leveraging employer matching funds to bolster donations.
During the fundraising campaign, DU Athletic sources have advised us that DU coaches and administration continue to explore a number of options to reduce travel while maximizing DU athletes’ competitive opportunities. And, as many of you know, there were furloughs and layoffs in DU athletics earlier this year to address the COVID-19 shortfall.
As DU’s highest performing division, we encourage Denver fans to explore different ways that they can help Denver Athletics. This is especially true when DU is likely to lose ticket revenue, concessions, and other ancillary income (facility rental) during this difficult time.
