Damien Goddard: First in Space for DU

The inimitable Damien Goddard, the founder of LetsGoDU,  was recognized Wednesday by the University of Denver as the first DU graduate venturing to space. Following in the footsteps of Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and William Shatner, Goddard will be blasting into the great unknown on January 15th, 2022. Goddard’s travel was booked through Elon Musk’s Space Perspective company at a cost of $125,000.

Goddard, a Houston business entrepreneur and philanthropist, traveled from his Texas compound to Denver by regular air for a recognition dinner with Chancellor Haefner, the Board of Directors and the staff at the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science. “My family’s contributions to the Goddard Space Center are no more important than the lasting imprint I want to leave at DU.”

“I dreamt about this day during my undergraduate days. It’s a bit embarrassing to get all this attention”, said a self-deprecating Goddard. “This isn’t about me. This is for all the kids out there who want to dream big.”

“The universe is big. Really, really big.” – Damien Goddard

“Frankly, I can’t wait for the smell of spent rocket fuel, 2.5 G’s on my chest and maximum dynamic pressure or ‘Max Q’ as we call it in the business of space.”

As for concerns? “Yes – no cabin service.”

Asked about flight preparation, Goddard replied, “I have been reading The Future of Humanity: Terraforming Mars, Interstellar Travel, Immortality, and Our Destiny Beyond Earth by Michio Kaku. Also, I have also been binge-watching the movie Spaceballs.”

All eyes will be looking south to Houston this mid-January as one of Denver University’s most inspirational alumni, Damien Goddard, shoots for the stars.

God speed, Damien Goddard. God Speed.

  1. Proud of you DG. Travel uniform very slimming. I do have one issue. Rumor has it you did not pay for your space venture with business earnings. Rather, you have used the Boone Fund to pay for your trip. That is going to land you in Federal Prison. Hopefully you will be allowed to have conjugal visits with Giselle Maxwell. God speed. Dunker

    1. Probably not. Someone wrote me that they want Boone to go with hopes DG leaves him in outer space. The nerve of some people. Dunker

  2. Has DG joined the Rebel Alliance? I look forward to learning about his exploits when the Historical Documents are aired.
