Denver men’s lacrosse (2-2) rebounded from an overtime loss to Duke last weekend with a home victory at Peter Barton Stadium Saturday afternoon, 13-9 against Merrimack College (3-2). The Pioneers outshot the warriors 35-18 and won the battle at the X, 19-7. The game never felt at risk.
In the first quarter, four different Pioneers gave Denver a 4-2 lead. The teams traded goals in the second quarter, three each, and the half ended 5-7. Despite the two-goal margin, DU seemed to be in full control in front of a packed home-field crowd.
After halftime, DU had a great third quarter. Richie Connell and Mic Kelly scored before the Warriors got on the board. Denver reeled off four straight goals, two by Noah Manning, to take a commanding 12-6 lead heading into the final 15 minutes. Merrimack could only muster 3 goals to Michael Lampert’s single score to make the final score 13-9.
