DU Braces for Homecoming Snowtoberfest

When living in the Rocky Mountain region, expect the unexpected – and this homecoming weekend is no different. This Fall’s first cold front will rock Denver with low temperatures in the teens and Denver’s first day entirely below freezing. The front is also expected to bring the first snow and Denver could get between one and three inches of snow throughout the weekend. In other words, hockey weather has finally arrived!

Winter Weather heading to Denver for Hocktoberfest

There is still time to sign up for homecoming events and Hocktoberfest. Surprisingly, a number of single-game tickets remain for #2 Denver hockey’s first home games of the season against Augustana and Air Force. Fans are sure to see some changes and upgrades at Magness Arena as well. The arena has been outfitted with brand new boards & glass and added LED goal lights. There will now be cashless payment systems, added metal detectors at each of the entrances, and a clear bag policy. The team even hinted at a new third uniform that will be unveiled for Saturday night’s game against Air Force. Early indications are the sweaters will be gold.

But this is really about DU’s young and exciting 2023-24 hockey team with lots of returning and new stars. Freshman Boston Buckberger was been named the NCHC Defenseman of the Week, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced on Monday and Zeev Buium is already raising eyebrows with his stout play.

Let’s not forget Denver’s talented returners such as defensemen big brother Shai Buium and Sean Behrens along with forwards Jack Devine, McCade Webster, Massimo Rizzo, Carter King, Tristan Broz, and Matt Davis between the pipes.

Frankly, it is a shame if the weekend is not a sellout, despite the weather forecast. And, after all – it is hockey weather.

  1. I looked yesterday and Saturday was virtually sold out, but still 500ish tickets available for Friday.
