We’ve seen this before. DU hockey fights all season long for a top-four seed and then, on a short week is directed to a distant time zone in a lower-seeded opponent’s backyard. This season’s Regional assignment for DU hockey could end up like 2015 Providence, 2010 Albany and 2002 Ann Arbor when higher-seeded DU got ‘rewarded’ with distant travel to the Eastern time zone to face a lower-seeded opponent playing near their campus. All this if #3 Denver is assigned to play #14 UMass-Amherst this Thursday.
Here are the other nine reasons DU should not be assigned to Springfield, MA.:
- Cañon City is to Denver as Springfield is to Amherst.
- *Even the Simpsons don’t claim THIS Springfield.
- Springfield is located 30 miles downwind of Amherst
- Winter in ‘The City of Firsts’ feels like the city planners were Fat Boy and Little Man.
- Yankee Candle Village gets more foot traffic than the MassMutual Center, the ‘flagship arena’ for Springfield, MA.
- There are 20 Dunkin Donuts stores in Springfield with 130,000 residents. The only thing more shocking? The homicide rate is higher.
- Springfield High Schools are primary feeders for Mount Wachusett Community College, Aliano School of Cosmetology and UMass-Amherst.
- The Springfield city motto, “A Dump under a highway” does little to attract visitors.
- The UMass-Amherst Minutemen have the same Q Score as Justin Bieber and Kanye West.
HOLYOKE Community College. No one in Springfield knows where Mount Wachusett is. Also STCC. If you’re going to trash the birthplace of basketball, at least get your facts straight!
