In a hastily called press conference Tuesday, Denver mayor Mike Johnston and Chancellor Jeremy Haefner announced a joint real estate agreement to allow Buc-ees to develop a parcel of land on the northeast corner of Buchtel Boulevard and University Boulevard. Under the deal, the City of Denver is relocating an aging City-owned power substation on the west side of the proposed parcel. DU’s parcel, Parking Lot 108, will comprise the eastern portion of the 4.5-acre lot (see map below). The terms of the final agreement were not immediately available.

The site will include 70 covered fueling positions and 6 EV stations, along with a 43,000 square foot convenience store. The store will feature conventional c-store fare along with Beaver Nuggets (caramel-coated corn puffs), fresh chopped brisket sandwiches, and a wide variety of beef jerky from its “jerkywall”.
At the announcement, Buc-ees CEO, Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, made an offer to DU’s School of Hospitality to have his culinary staff teach students how to make Buc-ees specialties like paddle tails (cinnamon sugar pastries), beaver chips, and Kolaches (Czech-inspired pastries filled with sausage and cheese or jalapeño).

“This partnership builds on our 4D experience – doughnuts, diesel, diet colas, and Ding Dongs,” joked Chancellor Jeremy Haefner at the press conference. “Seriously, the site will offer our students jobs as well as convenience.”
During the announcement, the mayor and chancellor both insisted that the new location will not generate new traffic but, rather, draw on existing traffic patterns. All this, while offering students and residents enhanced dining and fueling options.
Colorado’s only other Buc-rees is located at Johnstown (5201 Nugget Rd), right off I-25 at Exit 254. The University Boulevard and Buchtel store will mark the corporation’s second Buc-ees in Colorado.
As a Gen X-er exhausted by constant crazy news stories, my heart skipped a beat with this. Thanks for the laugh.
Thank GOD it’s APRIL 1ST
I fell for it!!! Congrats!!!
Thx for the laugh
It would hasten the death of the DU Conoco which I would shed zero tears over
Discounts for students?
I flupped a damn table and then realized the date
Dunker laughed
Downing & Evans is a better location, if they would demolish the Safeway store first
I’m sure that neighborhood would be less than thrilled
Amazing how a story could be believed..and what we may think about those at the head and in control.! Lol let’s make some doughnuts
Now that’s a healthy idea!!
April fools. And at least get the location right that’s not north east that’s south east
Hello 🤗. North of Buchtel!
Back to school 🏫
Northeast of Buchtel and University cited in the article. Southeast of I-25 & University in the headline.
I hope this is really true and not an April fools joke. They have the best damn barbecue and we hate driving up to Johnstown to get it. This would be an absolute dream come true.
Ammemn
Amen!
If they knocked down all of DU & built a Buccee’s, DU would finally turn a profit vs losing $30 million a year.
Keep the hockey team & rebrand them the Buccee’s Pioneers.
That would be an upgrade in the food choices.
WTAF???
All those that make negative comments are the ones that would first in line at buc-ee
The mayor is an idiot!!!
I wish Buc-ee’s was closer to Colorado Springs, CO. It’s going to be crazy trying to drive there and get inside of the building. I’ve spent a small fortune ordering the Beaver Nuggets and other items online. I can’t wait to finally buy everything at normal retail cost. Welcome Buc-ee’s and thank you for not giving up on Colorado as a location!
Aren’t they opening one in Monument or somewhere near the Springs?
I totally agree!
Discounts for the military, please!
You are deprived if you think that’s the best bbq
Law enforcement officers need to be able to have discounts as well. Is military in government staff a senior citizen, All people’s or create a color be justified, an honorable, fair and fair and consistent in Jesus recious Name God be the glory God will be done Hallelujah ✨️ Amen ✨️ ✝️.
Teachers, medical professionals, librarians, sanitation workers, mental health providers, construction workers, landscape architects, and astronauts.
Aside from the joke, this was the site of the old Worm Farm, when I was a kid
April fools or not, the reason Buc-ee’s is making plays in Colorado is because Colorado has turned into a Fool’s state. The past 20 years have led to nothing but increased debt, sixth most business regulations in the country and a loss of respect for a state that was one of the crown jewels of the country. Local communities are desperate to increase tax revenue, and it’s all part of the business plan.
