Bruner Wills Denver to Win Over Idaho State, 95-82, in OT

Denver (10-6, 1-1) faced the Idaho State Bengals at Hamilton Gym in the Summit League-Big Sky Challenge. After a horrible first half giving up 46 points, 22 in the paint, it looked like Denver was headed to a startling loss to Idaho State (4-9). However, the nation’s leading scorer, Tommy Bruner, willed Denver back into the game in the second half and the Pioneers went a sizzling six for six from the field in extra time, two three-pointers from Bruner, to swamp the visiting Bengals. Denver’s Second-Half Surge Swamps Omaha, 95-80

Denver men’s basketball (9-5, 1-0) started conference play Saturday night on the road against the Omaha Mavericks (6-8, 0-1). After an uneven first half, the Pioneers outscored Omaha 55-37 in the final 20 minutes to win 95-80. It was Tommy Bruner’s 25 points that led the way but it was his 8 assists that triggered the win. Touko Tainamo finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Isaiah Addo-Ankrah came off the bench and scored critical buckets with 14 points. Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Summit League Men’s Hoops Regular Season Looks Unpredictable and Chaotic

DU basketball superfan Dunker said it all when he said DU men’s basketball has the potential to beat any team remaining on their schedule. However, this Denver team can lose to any Summit League team as well. And, the same can be said of nearly every team in the Summit League during the 2023-24  conference campaign. DU Slips Past Pesky Adams State, 89-83

Denver (7-5) returned to the Hamilton hardwood after playing two tough ranked opponents in Colorado State and BYU. Denver faced the Adams State Grizzlies from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC-DII). Denver came out slowly and it looked like a mismatch after the first 20 minutes, but the Grizzlies put on a second-half push to close the DU lead to one but finally fell to Denver, 89-83. Denver Struggles Early, Falls to BYU 90-74

DU men’s basketball (6-5) traveled to Provo, Utah to face #17/18 Brigham Young University (9-1). The game was Denver’s second nationally-ranked opponent in a row after last week’s tilt against Colorado State University. The new Big XII BYU Cougars had a block party (7 in all) and DU was ice-cold from three-point range (5 of 23), trailing early and then, falling 90-74. Denver Battles #12/13 CSU in Close Loss, 90-80

Denver men’s basketball (6-4) traveled to Ft Collins to take on #12/13 Colorado State University (9-0) at a packed Moby Arena. Denver would hold a lead in the second half but the Rams dominated the half with interior scoring, 42 points in the paint, for a 90-80 win. Denver Steals Road Win at Idaho, 67-65

Winning on the road is hard. It is especially hard when you don’t play well. It is doubly hard when your two best players, Touko Tainamo and Tommy Bruner, have off nights. This edition of DU men’s basketball (5-3) is now good enough to play poorly on the road and win, 67-65, after trailing for large portions of the game against Idaho Wednesday night. Denver Tops Texas A&M Commerce 71-61

DU men’s basketball (4-3) traveled to Commerce, Texas to face the Texas A&M Commerce Lions on Sunday. Head Coach Jeff Wulbrun played four veterans over 30 minutes each to secure the road win. Tommy Bruner led DU with 31 points; Jaxon Brenchley had 15 points, 8 rebounds; Touko Tainamo had 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Isaiah Addo-Ankrah logged 31 minutes.  Continue reading Denver Tops Texas A&M Commerce 71-61
