Which Program has the Best Chance at Winning DU’s 34th National Title?

It was 2018 when Denver skiing won their 24th national NCAA title. Denver hockey secured their 8th title during the 2016-2017 season. In 2015, head coach Bill Tierney led Denver to its first men’s lacrosse NCAA championship. By recent DU standards, a three-year championship drought is too long and it begs the question of which team will win the athletic department’s next national title and when?

Denver Athletics Concludes 2020-2021 Season

Denver Men’s Golf made a final day charge but their over-par performance on the final few holes caused them to fall to sixth out of 13 teams at the 2021 NCAA Cle Elum Regional. Just the top five teams advance to nationals out of each regional and Denver fell just short of fifth-place Florida. It would have been historic for men’s golf to appear in the NCAA championships, a drought that has extended for over 61 years. Only three individual athletes remain in the NCAA playoffs. DU Women’s golfer Anna Zanusso is left as an individual athlete competing May 21st-23rd at the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Anna Reidmiller from Women’s Tennis and James Davis from Men’s Tennis are in the NCAA Tennis Championships May 23rd-28th in Orlando, Florida.

Denver Men’s Soccer Withdraws from NCAA Tournament Due to COVID-19

Denver is out and Omaha is in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament due to COVID-19 protocols. DU and the Summit League announced Tuesday morning that the Pioneers are withdrawing from the tournament competition. Denver’s match against UNC Greensboro will now pit the Mavericks of Omaha against the UNC Greensboro Spartans on April 29th as the Summit League Representative. DU Soccer Teams headed to North Carolina for NCAA Tournaments

This season, the NCAA is consolidating the Division I Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships by having all 48 women’s teams and all 36 men’s teams compete in Cary, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas. Conference Championships Highlight DU’s Weekend

Over this past weekend, DU earned two NCAA Tournament soccer berths, one by the old-fashioned way and the other via a COVID shortened season. Also, Denver women’s swimming won the Summit League in Fargo, North Dakota. First place women’s and men’s lacrosse teams experienced overtime highs and lows on road trips but both remain in first place in the BIG EAST. Bob Warming’s AARP Interview Cites Experience as a Winning Formula

The head soccer coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha (NOM), Bob Warming, talked to AARP Magazine (American Association of Retired Persons) about blending his experience with his team’s youth. Warming came out of retirement in 2018 to coach the Mavericks. Denver plays Omaha in a home-and-home series over the next four days. Denver needs just three points to secure the conference and NCAA bid while Omaha must sweep to keep its season alive. Here are a few highlights from the interview. Denver & Omaha to Determine Summit League Champion in Season-Ending Two-Game Series

Denver men’s soccer’s 2-1 comeback victory Monday afternoon at Eastern Illinois set the table for what has become an annual title showdown between Denver and Omaha. The winner of the two-match series, in Omaha on Thursday and Denver on Sunday, is nearly guaranteed to represent the Summit League at the NCAA Soccer tournament. Denver sits at 6-2-0 (18 pts) and Omaha is 5-2-1 (16 pts). First-place Oral Roberts has already completed their schedule and they sit at 6-3-1 (19 pts). Weekend Update: Denver Secures Regular Season Titles and in the Hunt for More

Like all Pioneer fans, it has been weird not seeing DU hockey in the NCAA Tournament over the past couple of weeks but DU did have yet another undefeated weekend in spring sports.
