According to reports, San Diego State has sent a formal letter to the Mountain West citing an interest in exiting the conference. SDSU has until the end of this month to submit a final letter to the Mountain West Conference expressing its intention to exit. The delay in PAC-12 media rights details has the Aztecs asking the Mountain West for an extension due to ‘circumstances beyond their control’ as they are also looking at a $17 million exit fee to move to the PAC-12. Western Illinois Limps Out of the Summit League – What’s Next for DU?
We wrote about the Leathernecks’ possible exit in the past. Located in an inconvenient outpost (Macomb, Illinois) and plagued with declining enrollment, a budget crisis, and plunging athletic success, the Leathernecks announced Friday that they are picking up their bats and balls and headed to the Ohio Valley Conference – populated with ‘similar schools.’ Continue reading Western Illinois Limps Out of the Summit League – What’s Next for DU?
Scam Alert: Beware of Internet Merchandise Scams
We were recently notified of a scam involving the new Denver character that we developed, Denver Bonnie, and using a version of LetsGoDU in the solicitation. They are using the same scheme with a number of other companies, schools, and teams. Continue reading Scam Alert: Beware of Internet Merchandise Scams
Shrinking College Enrollment Threatens the Status Quo
According to The Henchinger Report, “There has been a steady drop in the proportion of high school graduates enrolling in college after they finish high school — from a high of 70 percent in 2016 to 63 percent in 2020, the most recent year for which the figure is available, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. While the pandemic made things worse, the enrollment downturn took hold well before it started; there were already two and a half million fewer students at colleges and universities by the time that Covid set in than there were in 2012. Since that time, another million and a half have disappeared since then.” Continue reading Shrinking College Enrollment Threatens the Status Quo

Has Denver lost its Mojo?
Coming out of the 2007-2009 Great Recession, Denver was the nation’s hot spot. The resurgent front-range markets of Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, and Colorado Springs led the charge as millennials flocked to Colorado. Jobs were aplenty, housing was affordable, and the possibilities seemed limitless. Fast forward to 2023, more people are now expected to move out of Colorado than move in. It was not that long ago that Colorado and Denver were considered the ideal place to live, work, and retire.
DU Hoops Hit By Portal and NIL Exodus – What Does this Mean for DU Athletics?
While DU is currently basking in the glow of its exciting nationally-ranked gymnastics and lacrosse teams hurtling toward potential postseason success, all is not well at University and Asbury. As we write this, major waves of NCAA transfer and NIL changes are currently swamping the men’s basketball program, forcing a huge roster rebuild in the rapidly stratifying, money-driven Division I collegiate sports landscape, and further structural NCAA changes may end DU’s golden era of NCAA sports excellence. Nearly 50 Years Ago, Women Took the Field With DU Men’s Lacrosse Team
It was the 1974 school year. The time of President Nixon’s resignation, the Middle East oil embargo, and a Swedish rock group called ABBA was all the rage in Europe. That same school year, four female lacrosse players joined the DU men’s lacrosse ‘B’ team, playing against Air Force in Colorado Springs to open the season. The final score, an 18-1 AFA drubbing of Denver, was the least important event that day, as players from both teams dealt with a new trend that was sweeping the nation – women playing college sports.
