We are coming up on DU’s Alumni Weekend 2021, May 12 – 16. That makes this a perfect time to introduce you to one of DU’s most fascinating Pioneers. He was a man selected and trained by the Kennedy Administration to be the first black astronaut but his dreams of space travel were unrealized. He became a local Denver businessman, entrepreneur and, ultimately, found his calling as a world-renowned artist. His name is Ed Dwight, Jr. and he graduated from the University of Denver with a Master’s degree in his true passion. It’s Always Been that Way
The University of Denver was founded in 1864 and started out as Colorado Seminary. In 1880, the school was renamed to the University of Denver but is still legally operating as Colorado Seminary. But the name that causes the most confusion is the school’s iconic abbreviation, ‘DU’.
But why do we say DU and not UD? Continue reading It’s Always Been that Way
The World Around DU Just Got a Whole Lot Better – Denver Beer Co @ Downing Opening Wednesday

2020-2021 University of Denver Hockey Season Preview
If it seems that this annual preseason preview piece is coming at an odd time, you’d be absolutely right. It’s December 1st and the NCHC is officially kicking off its season – Omaha and Minnesota Duluth hit the ice this afternoon at 2:35 pm MT – that no one was totally sure was even going to happen a month ago in the midst of a global pandemic. It’s been a weird, brutal, and altogether taxing year. Nearly nine months after the 2019-2020 season was abruptly canceled in one of the most surreal weeks of our lives, we’re sitting back down and thinking about what’s to come over the next four months of college hockey. But as rough as this year has been and may continue to be in certain ways, there is a bright spot: college hockey is finally back and the puck drops on Denver Hockey’s 71st season in a little more than 24 hours.
