Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium is slated for a facelift. Built in 2005, the facility was the first D1 Lacrosse-only stadium in the US but twenty years later, the facility is ready for updating. A multi-million dollar donor-funded capital project is intended to improve the current experience for fans and players alike over the next two years. Northwestern Routs Denver, 17-4
Denver women’s lacrosse (16-4, 5-0) faced #1 seed Northwestern, an eight-time national champion, in Evanston, Illinois Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t pretty. The Wildcats were +10 on draw control in the first half while burying eight goals on eight shots in the first quarter to take an 8-1 lead and coasted to a 17-4 win over Denver. Denver women’s lacrosse (16-3, 5-0) traveled to Evanston, Illinois for the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Pioneers faced the Stanford Cardinal (13-5, PAC-12 7-0) on a blustery afternoon. DU fielded their full contingent with Defender of the Year/All-American Sam Thacker and Lauren Black back in the lineup for Denver. 10th ranked/#1 seed Denver (15-3, 6-0) capped an undefeated BIG EAST regular season by winning the BIG EAST Tournament against #2 seed UConn,16-14. #10 ranked and top BIG EAST Tournament seed University of Denver women’s lacrosse (14-3, 6-0) played the fourth-seeded Villanova Wildcats at Xavier Thursday in a BIG EAST semifinal game. #1 seed DU has never lost to the Wildcats (12-0) and Thursday was no exception as Denver trouced Villanova 19-7. Denver Lacrosse Teams Win at Home & on the Road
Both Denver lacrosse teams secured wins Sunday. The men started with a win in Columbus, Ohio against the Big Ten Ohio State Buckeyes, 9-6. Denver Women’s Lacrosse Falls Late to #1 Northwestern
Denver women’s lacrosse (3-3) traveled to Evanston, Illinois to face the #1 Northwestern Wildcats. Before Friday’s game, Denver had two narrow losses to then, #10 Michigan and #9 Maryland. The defending national champion Wildcats are loaded with the 2023 Tewaaraton Award winner in Izzy Scane and a host of other dangerous players but DU gave them all they could handle for most of the game. Northwestern scored four of the game’s last six goals in the fourth quarter to pull away, 14-10. However, Denver held the lead in the third quarter and tied Northwestern in the fourth quarter.
