With the 2016-17 college hockey season getting underway this weekend (it marks just about a year since LetsGoDU came back!), polls are dominating conversation (dumb) and pundits are making their season predictions (dumb, but fun!). Of course, it also means that it’s time to break out the annual LetsGoDU hockey preview. Continue reading 2016-17 University of Denver Hockey Season Preview

What is ‘the next big thing’ when it comes to DU sports?
The sport could easily be volleyball. Denver replaced successful head coach Jesse Mahoney, who left DU for the same job with the University of Colorado, with assistant coach Tom Hogan. Expect the defending champs of the Summit League to repeat again this year with a mix of veteran experience and defensive aggression – they were one of the top shot-blocking teams in the country last year. DU is coming off a 27 win-season and is poised to take the ‘next step’. Continue reading The Next Big Thing Starts Tonight

Top 100 Lax Poll Slights DU & the West
Photo: Modified New Yorker Magazine cover (March 29th, 1976) view of lacrosse in the United States
Either the DU coaching staff are miracle workers at molding middling talent into national contenders or national lacrosse prep rankings are wrong again.
A prominent lacrosse survey, Recruiting Rundown, shows the University of Denver landing the second ranked recruit, Ethan Walker, a left-handed Canadian playing at a Culver (Indiana) prep school (as reported by LetsGoDU as well). However, DU had no other recruits in the Top 50 and garnered only two more recruits, Kyle Smith (#59) and Sam Harnish (#71), from the Top 100 list. Only one Colorado prep player even made the top 100 – Cherry Hills Henry Adams came in #82 and is headed to Michigan. Continue reading Top 100 Lax Poll Slights DU & the West
