If the #6 Denver Pioneers wanted to pull off the exact opposite of their performance on Friday night, they did just that on Saturday night in their 5-2 road victory over the St. Cloud State Huskies. With the performance, Denver earned its 20th win of the season to extend the Tenzer Streak to 19 straight seasons with at least 20 wins, a streak that streak dates back to the 2001-2002 Pioneers. Denver Prevails in Scrappy Win, 69-63 – Earns Tournament Trip
There are two things you can say about this year’s DU men’s basketball team (7-23, 3-13 Summit League). First, they don’t make things easy. Second, they never give up. That was the case Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Gym against Western Illinois. The Pioneers built a 17 point lead and let it slip away in the second half. But, DU’s team and senior Ade Murkey refused to give up. Murkey scored 33 points, secured 7 rebounds and tipped away a missed Robert Jones free throw with :19 seconds remaining to keep possession in the waning seconds to nail down the win for Denver. St. Cloud State slips by Denver, 5-1
Anything that could go wrong went wrong for the #6 Denver Pioneers against the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday night in St. Cloud, Minnesota as they fell 6-1. It was a fairly even game through the first period and into the early part of the second…until it wasn’t. The Huskies scored often and the Pioneers simply didn’t have an answer for the onslaught. Denver Hockey Series Preview: St. Cloud State
The No. 6 Pioneers rebounded last weekend with a pair of wins against the Miami University RedHawks. Denver’s offense exploded for 14 goals while the tandem of Magnus Chrona and Devin Cooley gave up three goals on 45 shots all weekend. While Cole Guttman and Ian Mitchell received forward and defenseman of the week honors from the NCHC, it was Tyler Ward to stood out, netting a hat trick in Friday’s game and adding a couple more assists in Saturday’s game. After Saturday’s game, head coach David Carle said the Pioneers were doing the right things they needed to do to win, and they kept their foot on the gas. Now, Denver battles St. Cloud State with the fourth and final home-ice berth on the line. Denver sits in fourth, one point behind Western Michigan for third-place and four points ahead of SCSU.

Bonnie Brae’s Saucy Noodle Next on the Chopping Block
It looks like another Bonnie Brae family fixture, The Saucy Noodle Ristorante, is facing the wrecking ball. We wrote about their neighbor across the street, Bonnie Brae Tavern, facing the same fate with development plans to shutter and construct a 3-story building with 43 condos on the top two floors, ranging from 650 to 1,940 square feet, and four 400-square-foot retail units on the first floor.
Now, the tennants of the Saucy Noodle Restorante are facing the same fate. Continue reading Bonnie Brae’s Saucy Noodle Next on the Chopping Block
Wagering on Denver Athletics? You Bet
With legal sports wagering set to launch in Colorado on May 1st, collegiate athletics will be on the Colorado menu of state-regulated gambling options.
While it is logical to assume that CU and CSU football and basketball will be on the list, Pioneers hoops likely will join them as well. As for other collegiate sports, ultimately it is up to the Director of the Colorado Gaming Commission to formally approve submitted requests by gaming companies to add sports and prop bets (in-game bets). So, it is unclear at this point if the options will include soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, hockey or other sports offered by the University of Denver. Usually, public interest (action) drives the decision for gaming companies to offer betting odds on a sport or event.
DU’s Anna Zanusso ties all-time NCAA Record for low round in golf, firing 61!
In one of the greatest individual performances by a DU athlete in the history of the university in any sport, DU freshman women’s golfer Anna Zanusso fired an NCAA record-tying 61 for a low round at the Westbrook invitational tournament in Peoria, Ariz. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
“Anna [Zanusso] was incredible today,” said DU coach Lindsay Kuhle. “She hit 18/18 greens today and made 11 birdies all of which were within 15 feet of the hole. Shooting a program and NCAA record is remarkable. I can’t even begin to explain what it was like to see 61. She was in the zone, confident and in control. Her routine was very deliberate and purposeful. I couldn’t be more proud of Z to own this record.
I see this record today standing in program history for many many years to come.”
The final putt for the record is here:
