DU Gymnastics hosted an open practice on Friday, welcoming fans to the practice gym, and showing off new routines and skills. The team is at the halfway mark of their preseason practices and is looking good! They have welcomed four freshmen this year who all look like they can factor into the team’s lineups. The five returning seniors are perhaps the strongest senior class the Pioneers have ever had. Continue reading DU Gymnastics Putting in the Work for 2024

Weekend Full of Disappointment, Surprise, and Success
There was the joy of a Hocktoberfest hockey win and a road win from DU men’s soccer to clinch their 9th league regular season title. DU volleyball has emerged from the non-conference ashes to become a Summit League threat after 3-2 home wins against St. Thomas and arch-rival South Dakota. An upset tie with Augustana was a shock (the Vikings then beat CC in regulation on Saturday) but the biggest surprise was the shootout loss by #1 seed DU women’s soccer to #4 seed Omaha in the Summit League tournament semifinals at Pioneer Field to end their season. DU Freshman Goaltender Freddie Halyk Spurs 4-0 Win
DU hockey (4-1-1) went back on the ice Saturday night following a spotty performance Friday against Augustana. One LetsGoDU reader observed following the tie with the Augies, “The first 10 minutes showed a difference in talent (3-0 DU) and the last 50+ minutes (5-2 Augustana) showed the difference in heart.” Saturday night against a scrappy Air Force team was certain to be a test of both as Denver took to the ice on this snowy Hoctoberfest game. Upstart Augustana Shocks DU in Opening Night Tie, 5-5
Mama said there’ll be days like thisThere’ll be days like this, mama said. – The Shirelles
A funny thing happened on the way to a home opening rout – a tie. And, it could easily have been a loss to the newly minted Augustana Vikings, whose locker room is a converted trailer until their new Midco Hockey Arena is completed. Hats off to the visitors who overcame a first-period 3-0 deficit and earned a 5-5 tie and a shootout ‘win’ that does not count in the Pairwise Rankings. DU Braces for Homecoming Snowtoberfest
When living in the Rocky Mountain region, expect the unexpected – and this homecoming weekend is no different. This Fall’s first cold front will rock Denver with low temperatures in the teens and Denver’s first day entirely below freezing. The front is also expected to bring the first snow and Denver could get between one and three inches of snow throughout the weekend. In other words, hockey weather has finally arrived! Puck Swami: Musings From A New England Hockey Road Trip
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Taking a hockey road trip to Providence and Boston is a great way for a college hockey fan to spend a fall weekend.
First, there is the gorgeous fall foliage on the college campuses and everywhere else. Then there are the New England accents, which can be so much fun to imitate (when they aren’t hurling expletives). And of course, the promise of east coast Italian-American food is always enticing. But the heart of it all is six periods of fabulous college hockey.
Watching our Pioneers play two other nationally elite programs in front of sellout crowds in both cities last weekend, including a record student turnout at Boston College, was simply awesome.
Here are a few observations about what I experienced: Continue reading Puck Swami: Musings From A New England Hockey Road Trip
A Gritty Road Win, a Title, a Sweep, and a Split Highlight Weekend Action
As we told you, Denver hockey (3-1-0) lost a game 4-3 to Providence Friday night. However, the team rebounded the next evening with a comeback 4-3 win against Boston College at the raucous Conte Forum. Continue reading A Gritty Road Win, a Title, a Sweep, and a Split Highlight Weekend Action
Special Teams Falter as Denver Falls to Providence, 4-3
1-for-9. That’s what #2 Denver’s (2-1-0,0-0-0) power play did in their third game of the season. One-for-nine. The Pioneers fell to the #10 Providence Friars (3-1-0, 0-0-0 HE) 4-3 on Friday night in DU’s first of two games in New England due, in large part, to its power play’s sheer ineffectiveness. The penalty kill, for its part, struggled too statistically, going just 3-for-5 but the second goal that unit gave up – the game-winner – was nothing more than an unlucky bounce.
