Chancellor Rebecca Chopp has endorsed the creation of a ‘DU District.’ Her vision, as outlined in her 2025 strategic plan, is to build a more cohesive, active community in and around DU to include the campus and the surrounding neighborhoods. The idea is to connect the University more closely with the community, create a distinct identity, and take an active role in the rapid growth of residential, commercial, and retail development surrounding University Park. According to an article in SB Nation, while the board of directors of the Big 12 did not formally announce a decision to expand, they “have given commissioner Bob Bowlsby the green light to ‘actively evaluate’ the interest of those who might want to join the conference.” After months of back and fourth, it looks better than ever that the Big 12 Conference will add either two or four new teams. Either the DU coaching staff are miracle workers at molding middling talent into national contenders or national lacrosse prep rankings are wrong again.
A prominent lacrosse survey, Recruiting Rundown, shows the University of Denver landing the second ranked recruit, Ethan Walker, a left-handed Canadian playing at a Culver (Indiana) prep school (as reported by LetsGoDU as well). However, DU had no other recruits in the Top 50 and garnered only two more recruits, Kyle Smith (#59) and Sam Harnish (#71), from the Top 100 list.
