When a tie is a ‘win’ – Colorado College has Company

Colorado College tied the University of Denver twice earlier this season (4-4, 1-1) at Magness Arena and the World Arena. Their results, specifically their three-on-three overtime “victory” at Magness Arena, were widely hailed as ‘wins’ by the Colorado Springs faithful – especially after dropping 14 straight to the Pioneers heading into the series.

Video: Jeopardy used to allow for multiple winners with a tie but added a tie-breaker in 2016 to select a single winner to advance to the next show. Continue reading When a tie is a ‘win’ – Colorado College has Company

Colorado College Hockey uses block plan to team advantage

Many of you may remember the University of North Carolina academic scandal when the NCAA announced last fall that they would not punish the Tar Heels basketball team because both athletes and non-athletes were participating in sham classes for academic credit.

The CC Tigers have taken advantage of this loophole and are offering classes deemed as ‘less stressful’ during the Hockey season by offering a winter block called, “How Children’s Stories Reflect Real Life”. Students were given one book to read and asked to write one sentence on how the story related to their lives. The Colorado College student newspaper, The Catalyst, featured five hockey players final papers. The players’ names were redacted from the story. The excitement in Magness Arena was palpable as DU faced off against a tough University of Minnesota Duluth squad this past weekend for critical NCHC points. But for many in attendance, the highlight of the evening was the tire roll between the second and third periods on Saturday night.

Filled with anticipation, few spectators left their seats – eyes cemented on center ice. Continue reading Saturday Tire Roll highlights weekend sweep

WATCH: Jim Montgomery talks fourth straight home shutout, Tanner Jaillet’s “Wow” factor

After the game, DU head coach Jim Montgomery struggled to come up with the words to describe his goaltender’s performance before choosing to go with “He’s just…it’s wow.”

Montgomery did go into more detail on Jaillet’s sterling performance and other aspects of his team’s shutout. He mentioned the need to take shots before letting the opposing goaltender get set and square to the puck. Tanner Jaillet, defense shine in Pioneers’ fourth straight home shutout

Henrik Borgström scored once in the third period, off of #9 University of Minnesota Duluth goalie Hunter Shepard’s mask,  to provide the #4 University of Denver Pioneers with their only goal against the Bulldogs. If the game was played in any other building, the lack of offense may have spelled doom for the Pios. Instead, reigning Mike Richter Award winner Tanner Jaillet shut the door on Duluth and has yet to give up a goal in three games at Magness Arena in 2018, his fourth straight home shutout overall. Jarid Lukosevicius. The name evokes familiarity in the context of his hat trick for the University of Denver Pioneers in the 2017 national championship and as ‘American Hero Troy Terry’s roommate.’ Beyond the extraordinary feat and whimsical title, Lukosevicius has worked to establish himself as an embodiment of the resilient and relentless attributes linked with the culture and identity of DU hockey.
