Against the odds – Denver to face Jackrabbits in Sioux Falls again

The DU men’s basketball team (16-13, 8-8 Summit) are facing an uphill battle in Sioux Falls, South Dakota when they face the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits (16-18, 8-8 Summit) on March 5th at 5:00 pm MT. While Team Rankings is giving DU an 11.13%  statistical chance of winning three games and the championship, most prognosticators would say that is optimistic for Denver’s youthful squad. Few expect them to make it out of the first round.

So far, the Pioneers are 0-for-59 when it comes to Division I league championships.

Denver shuts out Canisius in Bill Tierney’s 100th Denver victory

They had to make it special right? 100 career victories with a program is an important mark for a coach of any program and today, #1 University of Denver head coach Bill Tierney eclipsed that mark for the second time in his career with a 12-0 win over the Canisius College Golden Griffins. WATCH: Jim Montgomery discusses Finlay hat trick, Class of 2017’s legacy

Last night, the #1 University of Denver Pioneers topped the #18 St. Cloud State Huskies, 7-2. Freshman Liam Finlay notched a hat trick and Henrik Borgström added a highlight reel goal along the way. It was nothing short of the perfect way for this program to thank the graduating Class of 2017 for their contributions to this program. WATCH: DU Women’s Tennis competes at Blue Gray Tournament in Alabama

While DU’s hockey and men’s lacrosse teams were busy dispatching their opponents in Denver this weekend, DU’s women’s tennis team traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to compete in the annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. They came away with a 4-3 win over Texas and it was valuable experience playing against some of the top teams in the country. Liam Finlay’s hat trick caps Senior Night beatdown of St. Cloud State

Freshman Liam Finlay tallied his first career hat trick, Henrik Borgström had a SportsCenter Top 10 worthy goal, and seniors accounted for eight points in the #1 University of Denver Pioneers’ 7-2 beatdown of the #18 St. Cloud State Huskies. Denver is now just one win away from clinching its first ever Penrose Cup, which is awarded to the team atop the NCHC standings at the end of the season. Denver dominates Cleveland State 19-6 in sloppy game

It may not have been made for television, and thank goodness it wasn’t televised, but the #1 University of Denver Pioneers rose above sloppy play and took advantage of many mistakes made by the Cleveland State Vikings to win 19-6 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. WATCH: Jim Montgomery talks Henrik Borgström and overtime win over St Cloud

Last night, the top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers escaped the #18 St Cloud State Huskies with a 4-3 overtime victory thanks to the heroics of star freshman, Henrik Borgström. The victory, combined with Minnesota-Duluth’s 3-on-3 overtime loss to Miami, puts Denver one point clear of the Bulldogs in the NCHC Standings with one game in hand. Henrik Borgström lifts Denver back into 1st place with overtime goal

Henrik Borgström, the artist, only had one goal all night, but it was the one that mattered most for the top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers. With 1:16 left in overtime, Borgström took a Troy Terry pass and wristed it under #18 St Cloud State University goalie Jeff Smith’s right arm to give the Pioneers a key 4-3 victory to reclaim 1st place in the NCHC. “Emotional night” to mark the growth of DU Hockey and Jim Montgomery

Nine seniors will don the Crimson and Gold for their last regular season series at Magness Arena this weekend. The top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers (22-6-4, 14-3-3-2 NCHC) host the No. 18 St. Cloud State Huskies (15-14-1, 9-10-1-0 NCHC) who handed DU its most recent loss (3-2) on Jan. 20. Upperclassman leaders play important role for Denver Hoops

Senior Josiah Dunn and redshirt junior Duke Douglas are making their final on-court appearance at Magness Arena Wednesday night.

Though they haven’t received major minutes on the court this season, both Douglas and  Dunn are classic ‘glue guys’ who hold the team together by example – hard work, accountability, and cooperation. Both are widely respected for their experience and work ethic both on and off the court at DU. LetsGoDU caught up with head coach Rodney Billups and assistant coach Dan Ficke to get their thoughts on these two upperclassmen.
