Buchtel Blvd Perkins and La Quinta Bite the Dust
A seedy La Quinta motel at Buchtel & Colorado Boulevard is receiving the wrecking ball treatment along with a Perkins Restaurant as housing and residential buildings continue to pop up in the University and University Park neighborhoods. The latest project is one mile east of the Ritchie Center. This project is in addition to a new building at Josephine & Evans (one block East of University & Evans) and a massive housing project at Evans & Broadway. The Saucy Noodle on the Way Out of Bonnie Brae
The hits just keep on coming for the Bonnie Brae neighborhood. Last month, Bonnie Brae Tavern closed. Now, across the street, the Saucy Noodle, a cozy casual Italian sit-down restaurant is preparing to close according to a Denver Post story. The family-style restaurant, operating in the same location for 58 years, is now on a month-to-month lease after its building was sold for $2.2 million in mid-July. DU Alumna Condoleezza Rice Secures Stake in Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos football team announced this morning that DU alum Condoleezza Rice is set to join the franchise’s new ownership group. Rice has long expressed an interest in the NFL, citing the role of Commissioner of the NFL as her ‘dream job.’ She took it one step further with her role as part of the ownership group of the Broncos which will be directing the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goddell. Former DU Pioneers Help Power Avalanche to NHL’s Stanley Cup Championship

The Colorado Avalanche’s third Stanley Cup Championship was won in Tampa, Florida with a 2-1 victory in Game Six over the Tampa Bay Lightning, making Denver into the new “Hockeytown USA”, as the Avalanche joined the 2022 NCAA Champion University of Denver and USA’s Hockey High School Division II National Champion Denver East High School for a troika of Denver hockey titles in 2022. Mixed Crime Reports Post-COVID-19 for University of Denver Area
With the conclusion of the 2021-2022 DU school year, we reviewed published police reports for the consolidated University and University Park neighborhoods thru June 2022. The trends are mixed when reviewing area neighborhood crimes. Overall, out of 78 Denver-area neighborhoods, University ranks #53 and University Park #35th on overall crime. Berlo Cites ‘Cultural Fit’ in Pursuit of Denver Athletic Director Job
Former University of Minnesota Duluth Athletic Director Josh Berlo was officially introduced as the University of Denver’s new AD at a press conference in the Gottesfeld Room at the Ritchie Center Thursday morning. Breaking: UMD’s Josh Berlo Tabbed as DU’s Next Athletic Director
The University of Denver has reached out to a familiar hockey face to lead the Pioneer Athletic Department and named Josh Berlo as its new Vice-Chancellor for Athletics and Ritchie Center Operations. The announcement will be made this morning at 10:45 at Ritchie Center on the DU campus. Berlo has been the University of Minnesota-Duluth’s Athletic Director since 2013 and had just signed a three-year contract extension at UMD just a couple of weeks ago.
