Denver Dodges West Region Bracket of Death – Goes to Cincy

‘Experts’ had #1 seed Denver pegged for the West Region in Fargo to face North Dakota on, essentially, home ice. The selection committee took mercy on the Pioneers (this time) and sent them to Cincinnati. They still may face a dangerous Union team in the second round but this will at least be neutral ice for Denver.

Denver clinches #1 overall seed in NCAA Tournament with Third Place Game victory

It’s official. The top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers will enter the NCAA Tournament as the country’s #1 overall seed thanks to a 3-1 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos in the Third Place game at the NCHC Frozen Faceoff. The win also means the Pioneers finish in third place in the NCHC Tournament for the second straight year. Denver drops close defensive battle to North Dakota in Frozen Faceoff semifinal

There’s always one constant anytime the top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers and the North Dakota Fighting Hawks take the ice together: it’s going to be a close game. Tonight’s game between the two teams at the Frozen Faceoff in Minneapolis was no different as the Fighting Hawks skated out of the building with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Pioneers. While North Dakota hockey (20-14-3) is still outstanding this season, they do not seem as invincible as in the recent past. As a result, some Fighting Hawks fans are seeking new activities to fill their time. While the Hawks are still the hottest thing in this hockey mad state, a dip in on-ice dominance has folks looking for other activities to occupy their time. For Denver, NCHC semifinal against North Dakota more than just another rivalry game

If you want to get a University of Denver hockey player’s blood boiling and heart pumping, all you have to do is mention North Dakota. The rivalry between the Pioneers and the Fighting Hawks goes back decades and there’s no love lost between the two programs. From conference tournament matchups to national seminfinal and title games, the hatred has festered and the fireworks fly every time the two programs take the ice. Our very own Nick Tremaroli has departed Denver for Minneapolis, Minnesota to cover the 2017 NCHC Frozen Faceoff.

The Pioneers will going for the second leg of the college ice hockey equivalent of the Triple Crown. Friendship forged through rivalry, Liam Finlay & Tyson Jost remain close

Separating friendship from team allegiance can be difficult for some, but it’s nothing new for freshmen winger Liam Finlay of the University of Denver Pioneers and North Dakota Fighting Hawks star center Tyson Jost. While Jost and Finlay didn’t begin playing together until 2011-2012 in bantam at the Pursuit of Excellence Academy in Kelowna, British Columbia, they have known each other since they were 8 or 9-years old where they met at a hockey tournament. Denver rides Evan Cowley’s second straight shutout to sweep of Tigers and into 4th straight Frozen Faceoff

For the fourth straight year, the top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers will head to Minneapolis for the Frozen Faceoff thanks to Evan Cowley’s 4-0 shutout of the Colorado College Tigers on Saturday night. The win was the Pioneers’ 14th straight over CC and clinched the first-round series sweep.
